Hayat Sindi Model Muslim Leader Keynotes at CAMP

Today Hayat Sindi is the keynote speaker for the Leadership Summit at the Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals. Samia is at the Wyndham Princeton Forrestal Hotel, where the Summit is being held a friend also attending the conference, forwarded the correspondence below.

Samia was registered to attend the Summit. Ten days before the conference, she received the following email:

Dear Ms. El-Moslimany,

The Council for the Advancement of Muslim Professionals (CAMP) reserves the right to refuse entry to its events to anyone, at its sole discretion and without explanation.  This email is being sent to you to inform you that your registration for CAMP's 5th Annual Leadership Summit has been canceled and you will not be permitted to attend.  A full refund for your Summit ticket has been made.

Sincerely,
CAMP Leadership Summit team

Her reply to Imran Eba, the Executive Director, was:

Dear Mr. Eba,
I assume that you are responsible for canceling my registration to the CAMP Summit and I would like you to reconsider your decision. I am just one victim of Hayat Sindi's manipulations. As a leader of an organization of Muslims, CAMP in general and the Summit in particular, I hope you reconsider your association with, and implicit endorsement of Hayat Sindi as a Model Muslim Leader.

As I mentioned in my previous email, Dr. Sindi has misrepresented both herself and her accomplishments as a Muslim and professional. Dr. Sindi has publicly been involved in an Islamically inappropriate relationship with my husband since December 2010, calling into serious question her commitment to social and Islamic ethics. In her home country of Saudi Arabia, she has brought a frivolous-lawsuit against me, the very woman whose marriage and family she has threatened to destroy. Moreover, she, herself, is currently under criminal investigation for the charges of seduction of my husband, for contributing to the destruction and damage of my 28 year marriage and family, and for an inappropriate relationship outside the bounds of Shariah with my haram (exclusive marital partner).

In addition, her personal, professional and academic resume calls into question her credentials as a scholar and a professional. What might seem as trivial dishonesty or vanity about her age, has given her opportunities that should have gone to those who actually fit the “youth” criteria for specific awards.  For example, at 40 years of age, Sindi was awarded the 2007 Arab-American Science and Technology Young Professional Award:  which “recognizes the early career achievements of a young Arab or Arab-American scientist or technologist.”  At 42 years Sindi was granted the 2009 PopTech Social Innovation Fellowship:  for “high potential young leaders.” And at 43 years she was awarded a 2011 National Geographic Emerging Scholar Award: which “supports uniquely gifted and inspiring young adventurers, scientists, photographers, and storytellers—explorers who are already making a difference early in their careers.”  By misrepresenting her age, Sindi robbed opportunities for recognition, public relations support, funding opportunities and career advancement, from the very youth she proclaims to support with her new institute, http://i2institute.org.  Again, not the actions of a true role model, not the least a Muslim one.

Secondly, professionally, Dr. Sindi promotes herself as one of the “one of the world's leading biotechnologists” and her company Sonoptix Technology, “a UK company established with Saudi seed money” as developing clinical diagnostics tools for the detection of cancer. According to online sources, Dr. Sindi is the only director, and perhaps only employee of Sonoptix, the company is housed in a storefront in Cambridge, UK, and has not ever produced, marketed or sold any product. For the records available online (http://company-director-check.co.uk/director/909517346)  Sonoptix has a total capital of £1000 UK, and has had no financial activity whatsoever since 2007. These are just a couple of the inconsistencies in Dr. Sindi’s professional resume.

CAMP cannot be faulted with having been mislead about Ms. Sindi’s questionable ethical behavior and debatable academic and professional accomplishments.  However canceling my registration at the behest of Hayat Sindi is unjust and unprofessional. I once again request that you reinstate my registration. I look forward to being able to reregister when I come to the Summit tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Samia El-Moslimany

CAMP refused to reconsider, and sent the following email.

The Travels of Hayat Sindi Model Saudi Woman Scientist & Fouad Dehlawi Respected Mentor, Teacher & Husband

Samia El-Moslimany and Fouad Dehlawi in happier
pre-Hayat Sindi days

Thanksgiving at the El-Moslimany-Dehlawi-Al Haddars

NOVEMBER 2010
At the invitation of Fouad Dehlawi, on November 24, 2010, Hayat Sindi came to stay at the Seattle home of husband and wife,  Fouad Dehlawi and Samia El-Moslimany. Sindi was a guest for the four-day Thanksgiving weekend.  Although she was married at the time, Sindi's husband, well-known business man, Ameer Said, did not accompany her.  Out of graciousness to her guest, Samia gave Sindi her bedroom, where Sindi slept in her bed. Sindi absolutely charmed Samia, her children, her mother, Ann El-Moslimany and their guests, and apparently Samia's husband, Fouad Dehlawi.

DECEMBER 2010
In December 2010, while still married to Ameer Said, and unbeknownst to Samia, Hayat Sindi and Fouad Dehlawi made secret arrangements to travel from Jeddah for a week to the romantic and famous Grandhotel Pupp Spa in the Czech Republic. At the last minute, they changed their plans, so that Fouad Dehlawi could attend his his son's engagement ceremony held in Malaysia. Fouad Dehlawi and Hayat Sindi delayed their spa vacation until January.

JANUARY 2011
On January 9, 2011, Fuad Dahlawi and Hayat Sindi, flew Turkish Airlines First Class to Prague in the Czech Republic and traveled the two hour trip together by limousine to Karlovy Vary. They spent a week taking the therapeutic waters, having massages and spa treatments, and attending concerts and museums. On January 15, they returned to Prague and stayed in the Prague Four Season's Hotel, before flying back together to Jeddah on January 16,  2011.

Dr. Hayat Sindi a Model Saudi Woman?

The actions of Dr. Hayat Sindi and Fouad Dehlawi that oppress Samia El-Moslimany and her family must be known.

Hayat Sindi in a relationship with Fouad Dehlawi, the husband of Samia El-Moslimany.  Hayat Sindi says, "You are strong; you are smart; you are intelligent, and you can also make breakthroughs. Society and science can be hand in hand. I had a dream as a child to make a difference, and it has all happened.”
On January 23, 2012,  Samia was summoned to the police station to respond to a complaint that had been filed against her by Hayat Sindi. Sindi  accused Samia over the past year of harassing and threatening Sindi and the man with whom she was involved in a “mashrou’a jawaz,” or, in the words of the officer, her fiancé (khateebha). When he was asked, the officer told Samia that Sindi's khateeb (fiancé), was none other than Fouad Dehlawi, Samia’s husband of twenty-eight years and the father of her children.

Fouad believes, "Work for this life as if you'll live forever,
work for the hereafter as if you'll die tomorrow."
The officer asked Samia to come and give her response, and to bring her Wali Amr (legal guardian), who was none other than her husband! In Saudi Arabia, women have limited self-determination. Women are forbidden from driving, may not travel, and may not marry without the permission of their legal guardian. Samia asked her husband to accompany her to the police station. From that day Fouad Dehlawi completely avoided her, ignoring her phone calls, text messages, emails and personal requests from his father. When Samia was unable to reach him for six days, she went alone, by herself, to the station and responded to the false accusations Hayat Sindi had made against her.
